Rodiyat Alabede, Beloved International Student at University of Winnipeg, Tragically Passes Away at 22

It is with deep sadness that we report the untimely passing of Rodiyat Alabede, a cherished member of the Winnipeg community and an international student at the University of Winnipeg. Rodiyat, affectionately known as Rody, passed away on Saturday, October 25th, while donating plasma. She was just 22 years old.

A dedicated and compassionate individual, Rody had dreams of becoming a social worker, a goal she was on the cusp of achieving as she was set to graduate next year. Her loss has left a significant void in the hearts of her friends, family, and the broader Winnipeg community.

Her friends describe her as kind-hearted, sincere, and deeply devoted to her faith. Far from home, Rody found solace in the friendships she formed in Canada, where she was seen as part of an extended family. Her passing is not only a personal loss but a loss to the community that embraced her with open arms.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to assist with funeral and burial expenses and to help with arrangements for her family. "We are doing everything we can to ensure she is laid to rest with the dignity she deserves," said Vera Jackson, one of the organizers of the campaign.

Rodiyat’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and prayers for her soul continue to be shared across social media.
